Amazon.com Review Sometimes, half an inch makes all the difference. But that's not the only reason to step up to the 735. Its powerful 10,000 rpm motor will handle anything you feed it--oak, walnut, exotics--with absolute ease. The three-knife cutterhead will make 96 or 179 cuts per inch, depending on which speed setting you choose. Mess is minimized with the fan-assisted chip ejection, which literally vacuums chips off the cutter-head and blows them out the exhaust. The 735's automatic carriage lock will save you from snipe by reducing the movement that causes it--what a great idea. We also love the redesigned thickness scale--it's big and super-visible, even in poor lighting. Those who do repetitive cuts will appreciate the turret depth-stop; set your most-used cuts to it once and you're always assured of accuracy. The home woodworker will be thrilled, and the professional's expectations will be more than met. This is a winner. -- Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Great planer, good deal February 16, 2009 P. Pisciotta (San Francisco, CA United States) I picked up the refurbished version for $389 + $50/shipping, about $100 more than a quality 12-inch planer (note, for every manufacturer I looked at who makes both a 12-inch and a 13-inch, the 13-inch is significantly beefier). It arrived in fine shape and was reasonably well packaged. Everything inside looked brand new, though there were a few "inspected" stickers on it, so it may have been refurbished. I'm told that new over stocks are sometimes sold as refurbished to avoid putting new items "on sale."
I've planed a couple hundred board feet with it and have kicked-up a few knots which took a small nick out of one of the knives, which were fairly easy to flip over to get a new surface. The feed system is good, the vacuum system is also good. I especially like the depth gauge, though it's not always accurate, it does give a good idea of what's up.
Snipe is manageable, though the in/out tray tables ($55) would be a nice addition.
Overall, no complaints. My close-second choice would have been the Home Depot Rigid 13" planer. Not as many features, but a workhorse at $400.
great buy November 24, 2008 sally reader (Edgefield, SC USA) i received my dewalt DW735R planer two weeks ago. it came without damage. i was a bit concerned ordering it from the west coast since it would have to come all the way cross country to South Carolina. i had read all the reviews about it being damaged when delivered, but i was very pleased when it showed up looking brand new, and the price was right at $389.00. i will order from them again. the planer is easy to operate and does a very good job. i ordered this item for my husband, he is the carpenter of the family! thanks vickie and joe reese
great planer May 5, 2008 Jack Morelock 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews of the shipping of reconditioned DeWalt DW735R planers, I was a bit apprehensive, but I actually prefer factory reconditioned on the assumption that they found the original bugs and fixed the equipment. Like Paul Paqel, mine arrived in pristine condition and a well packed and sturdy box.
I hooked it up to the dust collector and produced a beautiful finish on 1x6 and 2x6 rough cedar boards.
I built a table for the planer (photo; 24x48x30" high) that holds the feed surface level with a melamine infeed and outfeed extension surface - easy to build and reasonable cost.
terrific piece of equipment August 24, 2007 A. Hann I have used it with Cherry ,oak and pine , and sailed through all of it without a glich. I would certainly reccomend to hobbiest as well as professionals
